Grey Agate, Silver Pearls & Labradorite

Grey agate or Botswana agate like all agates is the banded variety of chalcedony, which comes in a wide variety of colours.

Botswana agate is a beautiful and highly desired gemstone found in the Bobonong district of Botswana. It is distinguishable by its intricate swirls and bands in the shades of grey, brown, white, black, pink and salmon pink. Like all agate gemstones, it has been used for jewellery and carved objects. Both beautifully and easily carved has a long history of carved cameos, miniature figures, talismans and more dating to at least 1500 years ago.

Named after the Canadian province of Labrador which was first categorises,

Labradorite is a feldspar mineral notable for its iridescence. Labradorite is usually blue, pale green, colourless or grey-white.

For this necklace, I used the grey agate in combination with labradorite and silver freshwater pearls. The pendant is a Botswana agate geode slice and the necklace has 6 chunky agate beads, labradorite and freshwater

baroque nugget silver pearls with high lustre. I have used double-hole carnelian beads as connectors between the agates. The findings are all bronze including bronze wire and bronze chains.
