Black Agate & White Tridacna

Agates are most commonly found as nodules within the cavities of volcanic rocks. These cavities are formed from the gases trapped within the liquid volcanic material forming vesicles. Cavities are then filled in with silica-rich fluids from the volcanic material, layers are deposited on the walls of

the cavity slowly working their way inwards. Black agate also known as black chalcedony can be found in black, dark grey and dark black colours.

For this necklace, I drew inspiration from the natural white line banded agate. I have used a plain black agate geode as a pendant and to achieve a lustrous effect I used black onyx in various sizes. To give a pure white effect I used natural White Tridacna (Hippopus) 10mm beads and white line banded agate. All the settings are gold-plated Sterling Silver.

Tridacna is a genus of large saltwater clams, marine bivalve molluscs in the subfamily Tridacninae, the giant clams. Tridacna clams can produce large white pearls with an undulating, porcelain-like surface and is said to be the most white substance in the world.
